Briggs will make final journey to Old Sod
The man who lived and breathed everything Irish will be buried in the country he held so dear.
William “Irish Billy” Briggs, the colorful owner of the Tir Na Nog Irish pub on Hamilton Avenue and one of the founders of the Trenton St. Patrick’s Day parade, will be laid to rest in Tipperary, Ireland.
Before Briggs’ remains are flown to the Emerald Isle, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church at 45 Crosswicks St. in Bordentown City.
Friends are urged to call between 2 p.m. today and 2 a.m. tomorrow at Tir Na Nog at 1324 Hamilton Ave.
Briggs died Sunday at the age of 56 following a yearlong battle with cancer. Born in Camden and raised in Bordentown, he lived most of his life in the Trenton area.
Dedicated to the fight for a free Ireland, he earlier this year was presented the Irish Patriot Award by Pat Doherty, vice president of Sinn Fein, the Irish political party with ties to the IRA.
