Coping with Calendar Conflicts

Bill had an interesting method of dealing with calendar conflicts. If two events overlapped in time, he would simply attend neither one.

    Me, age 12 or so, to Briggs:

    “Mr Briggs, what does ‘tir na nog’ mean?”

    Briggs:

    “It means, ‘please pay when seated.’”

    Sometimes he translated it “Please pay when served.”

    His original intention was to name the place The Ballycastle Inn, by the way.
